Books on Buses

Hello Parents,

I received the following information regarding an exciting opportunity for our students who ride the bus!

We have partnered with Calgary Reads and will be piloting "Books on Buses" throughout November and December.  This means there will be a book bin on the bus and students will be welcome to take a book to read on the bus and either return it for another book or keep the book as their own.

How long will the pilot be running?
Throughout the months of November and December.  Specifically, the start date will be the week of November 12 and the drivers will informed tomorrow.

Is my school the only school involved?
We have chosen a cross section of students over 7 schools and 2 service providers; from regular to alternative program, from preschool to middle school students, from general to specialized transportation.

Who is responsible for refilling and securing the book bin?
CBE Transportation will work with our service providers and Calgary Reads to replenish bins as needed.  The service provider will ensure the book bin is secured safely.

Are the books age appropriate?
Calgary Reads has hand selected the books to go in the bins.  Because they are partners with CBE schools, we know they are experienced and trust their selection process.

How does the program work?
Students can take a book from the bin to read on their way home and either keep the book, or return it for another book.

Can I add books to the bin?
Calgary Reads has asked that books are donated to them so they can review them before they are distributed.

We are so excited to promote literacy in support of the Three-Year Education Plan in partnership with Calgary Reads and look forward to hearing how "Calgary Reads-Books on Buses" is going.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Kind regards,
Emily
